Shares of Hims & Hers Health (HIMS) rose 5% on Tuesday after the telehealth company launched an online weight-management service for men in Germany, expanding its presence in Europe.
The new offering allows patients to complete private online consultations and, if eligible, receive prescriptions from clinicians licensed in the European Union, along with ongoing support.
Patients who require in-person treatment will be referred to local healthcare providers, the company said.
The launch marks a deeper investment in Germany, one of Europe’s largest healthcare markets, as Hims continues to expand internationally following its acquisition of London-based digital health platform Zava last year.
The company did not disclose financial details of the German launch.
Hims targets Germany’s men’s weight-management market
Hims said its new service addresses unmet demand for weight-management care in Germany.
Nearly one in five adults in the country has obesity, while more than six in 10 men are overweight, according to figures cited by the company.
Access to weight-loss treatments remains limited because statutory health insurance generally does not cover the medications, leaving patients to pay out of pocket.
The company also cited survey findings suggesting that more than 75% of adults who had tried to manage their weight did so with little professional guidance.
Meanwhile, 42% preferred not to discuss the subject with a general practitioner.
The service will initially focus on men’s weight management, combining online consultations with prescriptions where appropriate and continued clinical support.
The launch builds on Hims’ broader European expansion strategy.
The company acquired Zava in 2025, strengthening its presence in the UK and providing a platform for expansion into additional European markets, including Germany, France and Ireland.
Earlier this year, Hims also entered into a collaboration with Novo Nordisk to sell the Danish drugmaker’s branded GLP-1 weight-loss medicines, following a period of legal tensions over compounded alternatives.
US peptide compounding policy remains in focus
Investors are also monitoring potential changes to US regulations governing compounded peptides, which could create additional opportunities for Hims.
The company has prepared for a possible regulatory shift by securing a peptide facility in California and testing ingredients.
It has indicated interest in products such as sermorelin, glutathione, and NAD+, depending on the final regulatory outcome.
In October, the Department of Health and Human Services advanced an interim policy concerning certain compounded peptides.
The development helped lift Hims shares after an advisory committee reviewed several peptides in July and recommended that six of seven, including BPC-157, be allowed for pharmacy compounding.
However, the recommendations are not final.
The Food and Drug Administration must still make its decisions and complete the formal rulemaking process.
Any expansion into compounded peptide products therefore remains dependent on regulatory developments.
Legal challenges and GLP-1 margins remain concerns
Despite its international expansion, Hims faces several challenges.
In late July, the Federal Trade Commission filed a lawsuit alleging deceptive privacy practices involving data sharing with advertising platforms, as well as misleading billing or cancellation practices.
These are allegations in the lawsuit.
The company has also faced margin pressure after shifting from compounded GLP-1 treatments to branded versions earlier this year, despite subscriber growth.
